The art: Andy Warhol, Marilyn Monroe’s Lips, 1962.
The news: “Keepers of the Gay Film Legacy,” by Erik Piepenburg for The New York Times.

Note: This was Warhol’s 37th and final semi-elegiac painting of Marilyn Monroe. Her lips were taken from a publicity still taken by Gene Korman to promote the 1953 film “Niagara.”

The news: “The Artists: Notes on a lost style of acting,” by David Denby for The New Yorker.
